Road trippin'

Sunday: Drive 7 hours to Las Vegas and spend the night at my sister-in-law's place.

Monday: Drive 5 hours to Yuma to spend time with my sister and her kids, with plans of leaving on Thursday.

Tuesday: Receive phone call at 4pm that my laid off husband has a job. That starts the next day. Immediately pack up and leave. We were in town for 24 hours.

Wednesday: Arrive in St. George at 12:30 am and take over the wheel so Skyler can sleep. Drive 80 mph using every ounce of my concentration to see in the dark (I have terrible night vision) so we can make it home in time for Sky to get to work. Whilst straining to see the road, do leg exercises to keep blood flowing through my legs and swollen feet. Arrive home at 5:30 am, just in time for Skyler to get ready for work.

On Monday afternoon, Skyler called the union hall to see what number he was on the out-of-work list and was told he hadn't moved from the previous week (#30). You can imagine how shocked we were to get a call the very next day that he had a job. While we were super bummed to be leaving my sister Mary after hardly any time together, we were of course very happy that he had a job. Two layoffs in 4 months is stressful, but this one only lasted 2 weeks.

Driving all day when you're 7 months pregnant is not my idea of fun, but luckily it wasn't too terrible. I slept about four hours this morning and have spent the day with my still-swollen feet up, too tired and achy to do anything else. Sky came home from work at 3:45 and went to bed at 5:00, poor guy.

All we can do is laugh and be grateful. We're just glad the call didn't come on Monday or we wouldn't have spent any time at all in Arizona. And we are incredibly grateful that Sky has a job once again, and for the first time, a job close to home (10 minutes away). Usually Sky drives an hour or so to job sites, so that's an added bonus.

Life is funny sometimes.

This is a story that will make a great funny memory through the years. The legend of the all night drive will grow and grow as time passes. Your kids and grandkids will hear about it.

Wow!! What a wild ride!! Glad to hear you've been keeping your poor swollen feet up since then. Good news about the job... 2 layoffs + a baby on the way = stress in my book. You guys are both troopers!
